Your First Weldment Drawing - Two Pointers to Get Started.

When doing your first weldment drawing there are some things you need to consider and learn first.

1) What weld symbols to I need to learn, which ones are used most often in my company?  Then go on the internet and start learning, or open your machinery handbook and become familiar with them.

To get some links to good sites for learning these symbols check out the blog on our website with the same name.  http://www.rentapen.com/2012/05/weldment-drawing/
I have found that the fillet weld, (shown in the first picture) and the flare groove weld or the flare bevel groove weld are used most often in the weldments that we use in weld fixtures.

2) Think about what is machined before the parts are welded together and what is machined after the parts are welded together.  This will help you know what dimensions will get three place and what dimensions get 2-place inch (1 place metric).

There are more pointers on Rentapen's web site.  Check it out!
